Heather Engebretson Blog 9 Comments

Wow! Can you believe it’s already July! We’d like to tell our US friends a Happy 4th of July today! Home of the Brave is still on sale today so be sure to pick that up for some great 4th cards, but for cards to make for troops coming home!

Today we’re introducing the talented ladies that will be joining us all month long!

To start off, please give a warm welcome for our amazing Sketch Artist this month, Kim Kesti!

Q: What card style do you tend to gravitate towards, or how would you describe your style?
A: Although I love trying new things, most often I tend to be a “fun and cute” card maker. I like the more graphic, colorful prints and whimsical images.

Q: What is your favorite color combo?
A: Right now I’m really enjoying yellow with just about anything. I usually pair it with aqua, gray or orange.

Q: What is your favorite SSD stamp set?
A: I really love the Sassy Shoes and Birthday Purses sets (you’ll see one of those later this month), but I think you are going to be blown away by the new set debuting on July 12th. I got a little sneak peek and it is just wonderful.

Kim put together this gorgeous card using Grunge and Heartsong!

Our Guest Designers this month are Karen Baker and Karen Christensen! All letter “K” guests this month?! Too fun!

Next up, Karen Baker!

I’m a graphic designer by trade, wife, mama to two energetic, young boys and always a crafter at heart. I like to expand my boundaries by experimenting and showcasing the capabilities of each stamp set that I pick up. I’m passionate about composition and color and am an advocate of clean design in my creations. I’m really excited to guest design for Skipping Stones Design and thank you for having me!

Q: What card style do you tend to gravitate towards, or how would you describe your style?
A: Definitely clean and simple, or clean and graphic!

Q: What is your favorite color combo?
A: I love Kraft and Vanilla together, or really anything neutral.

Q: What is your favorite SSD stamp set?
A: Grunge, its got so many fantastic textures and so versatile. It really fills the “masculine void” in my stamping stash.

Here’s a show-stopper of a card Karen created with her favorite set Grunge!

Our next guest is a regular here at SSD and always makes it a point to participate in our sketch challenges! We’re excited to have Karen Christensen join us as a Guest DT member!

Hi! I’m Karen. I’m so excited to be invited as a Guest DT Member this month! I was born and raised in Oregon but for the last 6 years have called Idaho home. I just celebrated my 19th anniversary to the best husband ever. We have three kids the oldest is 21 (my son) and two daughters 17 and 11. I have been stamping for several years now. I prefer making cards over scrapbooking, but I will do both. I fell in love with the acrylic stamps because they are so much easier to take places (grab a few blocks a couple of stamp sets, some paper and go to a friends, crop night, camping…). Besides stamping I work full-time as a Medical Records Specialist. I am an actress for several local theatre companies and am an “Ordained Minister” (recently ordained online) and have been enjoying performing weddings in the area. As you can see, I like to keep busy! It keeps me out of trouble that way!

Q: What card style do you tend to gravitate towards, or how would you describe your style?
A: I don’t know that I gravitate towards any particular style, I love following sketches and letting my creativity go from there.  I prefer to make my cards 5-1/2 x 4-1/4 in size and I prefer to make them not too bulky so that they can be mailed easily without adding the extra shipping or worrying about if it is going to be ruined when shipped. I would call myself a mood stamper.  What my mood is reflects my style and color choices.  My mood will also effect what stamp set I will choose.  So far I only have twenty SSD sets to choose from.  I have plans to add more!

Q: What is your favorite color combo?
A: I think I lean towards the bold and brights, I like “Happy” colors.  Because my favorite color is blue I tend to use a lot of blue, because I have two princesses still living at home (17 and 11 yrs old) I tend to do a lot of pinks and sparkle (glitter, gems, and glimmer mist).  Oh okay I guess I can’t keep blaming them – my youngest has pointed out that because she is a princess I’m the Queen!  She is quite right!

Q: What is your favorite SSD stamp set?
A: Lets see I love the bra sets, the Funny About Men set, the Holy Carp set, Tropical Birthday…Oh who am I kidding?  I love them all!  There is just no way I can pick only one as a favorite.  The previous six mentioned are the ones I find myself using most though.

Karen’s card features a sneak peek at the set being released this month, Victorian Summer. If you’re a newsletter subscriber you got to see the full set reveal!
